Press and data

Plateop analyses open vehicle inspection data for car buyers. We share the resulting figures here with journalists and researchers: free to use, with attribution.

The STK Monitor

The STK Monitor is a yearly publication on the state of the Czech vehicle fleet, based on open data from the Ministry of Transport on the STK roadworthiness test. Each edition shows the share of serious or dangerous defects by vehicle age, which defect categories occur most often and which models stand out in either direction.

An edition appears once a year, following the calendar year of testing, and is never changed after publication: cited figures remain verifiable on this page.

The European Inspection Index

The European Inspection Index puts the inspection figures from the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Czechia side by side: not as a raw percentage, since those countries each count failures differently, but as an index relative to their own country average. One hundred is average; higher means failed more often than average in that country and age group.

Method in brief

All figures come from open STK data for a single calendar year. Only grade B (serious) and grade C (dangerous) defects count; minor grade A defects are excluded. Fleet figures come from the full Czech STK fleet; category and model figures come from the models Plateop tracks. Each edition states its exact coverage and thresholds.

Citing
